Weymouth Choral Society has been delighting the local borough with choral performances for over 145 years! We know that the Society was established in or before 1863 and we have a list of past performances dating back to 1899.
The Society continues its long history of supporting the local community by performing for charity, carol singing in hospital and care homes, singing at civic events such as the Christmas lights ceremony in the town and helping at a seafront stall on Carnival Day.
We perform three or four main concerts a year, usually at Holy Trinity Church. For a map of Holy Trinity, click here. Our musical director, Helen Brind, ensures that we perform a wide variety of music to suit all tastes. Our Spring concert is often a requiem or programme of solemn music. In contrast our Summer concert is a varitey of lighter music, perhaps folk songs or excerpts from the musicals. It is, in fact, an ideal taster for those new to choral music.
The content of our Autumn concert varies but often we perform Handel's Messiah for Hospices and proceeds go to local hospice charities. The Christmas concert follows shortly afterwards, featuring seasonal music and carols and we are often joined by a youth choir to enhance the Christmas message.
